Affordable energy in Denton, Texas

by Donny on December 20, 2010

The name “Mean Green” probably doesn’t refer to University of North Texas’ energy, but citizens of Denton, Texas do have something not everybody else does; the right to choose from the most affordable energy companies and rates.

Denton is largely known as a college town, home to University of North Texas and Texas Women’s University.

Over 45,000 of its nearly 120,000 citizens are college students at these two universities.

Denton residents, along with visitors and tourists, participate in several annual festivals and other events, including its annual Holliday Lighting Festival.

The town is also widely known for its music culture which began at UNT’s college of Music, and its jazz studies program, which started in 1947, was the first in the United States.

One of the biggest symbols of the town is the County Courthouse in the downtown square.

The courthouse was built in 1895 with Texas limestone. The city now uses another building for its courthouse, but the historical building is used for several things, including the Denton County Museum.

That’s not all Denton has to be proud of these days.

Historically, before the energy deregulation, citizens of Denton had no choice when it came to an electricity provider, but now, they can shop, compare and choose from the most affordable electricity prices and provider.
