How to save energy during Super Bowl

by Donny on February 2, 2011

When Arlington hosts Super Bowl XLV this Sunday, many energy companies will make a killing, and it all starts at the site of Cowboys Stadium.

With the temperatures in Dallas dropping and even getting snow, you have to figure that it will take quite a bit of heat to keep everybody in that $1.2 stadium warm, and that’s just those in the stadium itself.

Fans throughout Texas and other deregulated around the country will be hosting Super Bowl parties and glued to their TVs.

One thing you might not think about that could make a little bit of a difference is how to save money during your Super Bowl party, whether you’re hosting one or going over to a friend’s house.

Although you won’t do things much differently than what should normally be done to save money on your energy bill, it’s a bit harder to carry these things out when the house is full of people gathering on this big day.

That being said, here are just a few tips to saving money:

•    Turn off all lights in rooms that are being used. Some people even like to turn off lights while watching a movie, maybe it will be the same way during the game.

•    Some TVs have a mode that saves energy, if yours has this feature it’s not a bad idea to use it, especially if you’re using multiple TVs.

•    Use your oven as a substitute for a microwave. This way, you’ll be able to serve your guests the best food possible and then if you leave the oven open for a few minutes, it will help to heat the house a little more and put out a nice smell.

Of course one other thing that will go a long way, and not just during the Super Bowl, is to choose the most affordable energy provider and rates for your residential home or commercial business.

For residential, just type your zip code into your compare box to begin shopping and comparing rates.

If your area doesn’t have residential, it still might have commercial. For any more information or help signing up, feel free to give us a call anytime at 1-800-971-4020 and one of our expert energy consultants will be more than happy to give you a hand with all of your energy needs.
