Can’t fight the power

by Donny on November 30, 2010

We can’t escape it. We can’t even deny its existence not matter how hard we try.

I’m talking about electricity.

We rely on it about as much as we rely on food, but we wouldn’t be able to get away from it even if we were to ever try.

There are different forms of electricity, but the two most common forms are static electricity, and current electricity.

Static electricity is what causes a spark with your blankets as you lie down in bed. It’s the reason you feel a shock after rubbing your socks on the carpet.

Current electricity travels through power lines to and from the energy sources. It’s what enables our TVs to work when we plug them into the wall. It’s what heats our homes in the winter and cools them in the summer.

So how would you possible escape electricity if you tried?

If you put yourself on an island by yourself, you’d likely still have static electricity. You’re bound to witness a lightning storm at some point, and lightning, as Ben Franklin proved, is a true source of electricity.

Also, while on that island, it’d be hard not to see airplanes, helicopters, boats and other sources of current electricity. It’s all around us.

Of course, when we lose power in our homes, we don’t know what to do with ourselves.

We can run the air or AC. We can’t watch TV or turn on the lights, and we’re extremely limited.

Thankfully, this isn’t always a bad thing because it is necessary to get work done, and to stay healthy.

That’s why it’s best to have a choice when it comes to your energy provider, and now is the best chance to look for affordable electricity.
