Energy Providers in Pennsylvania

by Donny on December 3, 2010

Pennsylvanians can enjoy the luxury of being able to choose an affordable electricity provider thanks to the recent deregulation.

Prior to it, residents and business had no say in the matter, and had to go with whatever electricity company was in the area.

Allegheny Energy is among the several options for Pennsylvanians.

It was originally founded in Maryland in 1925, but is now station in Greensburg, PA, and it supplies energy to customers in Virginia, West Virginia Maryland and Pennsylvania.

At one time, the company also operated in Ohio, but in 2006, it was to sell that territory to Columbus Southern Power.

In 2005, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Maryland filed a law suit against Allegheny Energy for making upgrades without installing pollution controls required by the Clean Air Act.

It wasn’t much more than a shakeup for Allegheny Energy who is now in full swing.

Citizens of Pennsylvania can now choose from Allegheny and several other companies when in the market for electricity.
