Is an energy monopoly bad?

by Donny on December 8, 2010

We’ve all heard people complain about Walmart and other big named companies run the smaller, local companies in to the ground.

I’m not the biggest fan of Walmart myself, but it has nothing to do with them rolling over the Ma and Pop stores.

If you hate these big stores for that reason, your hate is misguided.

Take your hatred out on the millions of customers that shop at the monopolized stores.

That’s neither here nor there though. The reason I bring that up is because this is situation is pretty similar to what we’ve got with energy companies.

In deregulated areas, you’ve got smaller companies that compete with the big names who control electricity, gas, water and more, but why would you get mad at the consumers who go to these monopolies?

Most of us living in deregulated areas are just trying to find the most affordable electricity, and if that’s offered from one of the bigger companies, so be it.

The deregulation has opened up competition, and one may argue it has taken opportunities away from the little guy, but that’s capitalism at its finest.

Instead of bickering and complaining about how the smaller companies are suffering, let’s jump on board with what’s more affordable, especially if you have a family to support.

If you’re in the market for electricity, you can sign up here as long as you’re in a deregulated are.
